Now that 2016 has passed, it is time to review the musical hits of 2016.
Justin Bieber, The Chainsmokers, Drake, Rihanna, Adelle, Sia, Desiigner, Justin Timberlake, and Zayn all had #1 hits in the year 2016.
Justin Bieber remained #1 and #2 on the Hot 100 chart for 13 weeks straight with his two hits Sorry and Love Yourself .
The Chainsmokers with their hit, Closer featuring Halsey, spent 12 weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 Billboard chart.
Drake was the top artist of the summer remaining 9 weeks straight at #1 on the Hot 100 Chart with One Dance featuring WizKid & Kyla. Also Work by Rihanna featuring Drake spent 9 weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 Chart.
Adele sold over 9 million copies of her album, “25.” 3.4 million copies of her album were sold on the first week. It was the biggest sales week ever for an album. In January 2016, Adele ruled the top of the Hot 100 chart for 5 weeks with her hit, Hello.
In August 2016, Sia remained at #1 for 4 weeks with her hit, Cheap Thrills.
Other hits that made it to #1 on the Hot 100 Billboard Chart are Panda by Desiigner , Can’t Stop The Feeling by Justin Timberlake , and Pillowtalk by Zayn .
Prince
On April 21, 2016, we lost an incredible musician, Prince. The peak of his career was during the 80s. Prince is one of the best-selling artists of all time. He has sold over 100 million records worldwide. He was an icon, an innovator. Due to his death, several of his songs hit the charts. In the month of May, Purple Rain reached #4 and When Doves Cry hit #8 on the Hot 100 Billboard Chart. Little Red Corvette, Kiss, Let’s Go Crazy, 1999, Raspberry Beret, and I would Die 4 U made the Top 40 Hits on the Hot 100 Chart. Prince is one of my all-time favorites. He will be greatly missed.
